The importance of a Pop Video has grown in the past 30/40 years. The first Pop video being a British band called Queen. There video for Bohemian Rhapsody was a promo, which apparently was never meant for mass consumption.
Most people have been lead to believe that Michael Jackson's "Thriller" was the first music video, however, Thriller was the first, and one of the most expensive music videos, to this day with a beginning, middle and end, it being over 10 minutes in duration.
Both of these videos helped to launch these artists into the charts and into the history of music, Michael Jackson's Thriller is still reguarded as the best music video to date.
More music today have videos that explot the female actress, using sex to promote the song. This is mostly found in R&B and dance videos. These videos fade very quickly in people's minds as they are no longer memorable. My opinion is that the music instustry and major corporations are creating the same type of music products, therefore the products become less memorable.
An artist who is trying to break that trend is Lady Gaga, known for her outragious outfits and her questionable sexuality, Lady Gaga has proven to the world that Pop doesn't have to be completely mainsteam and conformist.
Her videos are new and have been described as "a breath of fresh air to the pop world". I agree with this statement, I think she is paving the way for artists to show their creativity.
